There is a decidedly modern feel to the dialogue and a couple of dropped story lines that kept this from being a five star read for me, but it is a very entertaining book and I would be happy to recommend it.This is the second book in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone title.

While not as good as the first book in this series, it is still a good tale of rugged Highland warriors, evil Englishmen, and heroines in need of rescue. "Strath," the Laird of Dornoch has been sent into England by his King, Robert the Bruce. He is to find and bring back the depraved Lord Belfinch who has been raiding along the Scottish border and burning entire villages. An additional task is to find out if Eva, the youngest daughter of the Earl of Northwyck is still alive. When he finds Belfinch, he is about to marry Eva. He abducts Eva and leaves the message that if Belfinch wants Eva and the money Strath has stolen from him, he will have to come after him. **This is where the story goes off the rails for me. Belfinch is unconscious and could be taken along as easily as not.** During the long ride to the Highlands, romance blossoms as well as problems. Eva is still keeping a secret that may cause him to lose the trust that has developed between them. The story moves along well for the most part. I liked Eva and adored Strath. The ending felt rushed and a little scattered to me, but still a good read. 3 1/2 Stars rounded up to 4Sexual situations may offend some readers
The beginning drew me in, and since I love Ms. Knight, I anticipated a great story. This just wasn't her best. The romance felt too sudden, and toward the end it got a bit melodramatic (she usually doesn't write that way). There was a time when the romantic tension was all about her not telling him a secret--which wasn't really that big of a secret--so that part felt contrived. The father's character seemed to conveniently change as well and made it confusing.Overall, she has far better books. The first in this series spinoff was excellent. This one just felt unbalanced and rushed, unfortunately.I'll still read her work though!
I love to read Eliza Knight’s stories about the Sutherland family. This story is about Strath who is Laird Mangus Sutherland’s son. Strath is theLaird of Dornoch. He also does different jobs for his King Robert the Bruce. This mission is to go to England capture a man by the name of Lord Belfinch and to see if Lady Eva de Clare was alive. Lady Eva’s father the Lord Northwyck was being blackmail by Lord Belfinch. Belfinch is going to marry Lady Eva and there is no one who will stand up for Lady Eva.Now arriving at the gate to capture Belfinch, Strath finds them in the chapel. Strath kidnaps Lady Eva. They head back to Scotland knowing that Belfinch and Lord Northwyck will follow.Strath heads to Glasgow where his Uncle Jamie and Aunt Lorna liveSecrets start to unfold and learning to trust is important. Several things happens, I think that if you love Scottish stories you would enjoy reading this book.HAPPY READING !!!!
I have to stretch to give this a 3 star rating. I had looked forward for this to be released and have had to force myself to finish. It seemed to have a good story line but this just wasn't Eliza Knight's best writing for me. It seemed to drag out....it seemed more silly than funny in parts. It just didn't get me involved into it. It was like someone else had written it...more a "beginner" author. I loved Niall and Bella's story and all the other Stolen Brides storiez, sadly this one does not come close to the same level.
