Once again, I find National Geographic Kids books the go-to books whenever I need to get a good science guide for my four-year-old daughter. She was captivated as I read to her and even could answer all of the comprehension questions at the end, which I found really impressive. There is good vocabulary introduced such as "chrysalis" and "camouflage". We are raising our own caterpillars right now and this is a great companion guide to consult with and read as we watch the little critters grow and transform.

My 2 year old LOVES this entire series of Nat. Geo Readers... I have purchased about 25 different titles, "pre-readers" as well as Level 1 & 2 readers. She loves them all & will ask for certain ones. The "pre-readers" level books are extremely simple & great because she memorizes the words & can "read" it herself. We love the more advanced ones too, because there is more information to talk about. I have learned quite a few facts, myself!) What a great series. The price is reasonable & pictures are great. These are really getting her interested in nature, animals & science... I will continue to buy these as they are released, for our collection!

I gifted a caterpillar kit to my son's class and thought it would be fun to have something to read that correlated. This book is good for reading to children, as well as for kids who are able to do some reading on their own. The pictures are beautiful: bright, clear, and relevant to the text. The text is simple and concise, yet very informative for young scientists. There are fun facts and riddles for kids throughout the book as well. Overall, would definitely recommend, mainly for kindergarten to maybe even 2nd grade. His teacher is thrilled with it as well.

Was a birthday present along with a butterfly garden for my 7-yr old granddaughter. She absolutely loved this book, could read it herself and was fascinated by the pictures. When the caterpillars in her butterfly garden became large enough to form a chrysalis she would explain to everyone why and how it happened, then she waited patiently for the emerging butterfly always checking with her book in hand. She has now decided that her next year's science project will be to follow the stages of butterfly development. All due to this book. She wants to photograph her own stages and has already learned to spell the important new words in development. Thank you for this science boost for Ellie.

Bought this to go with our caterpillar to butterfly project. My 3 yr old grand-daughter was fascinated to learn about their transformation. We read the book when we received our "cup of caterpillars," then we kept referring back to the pictures throughout the weeks, as they formed into chrysalides, then into butterflies. Great book with plenty of photographs. Good for teaching.

My son loves this book, as do I. National Geographic hit a home run on this one.Not present is National Geographic's habit of digitally adding unnecessary characters to host the book, or their penchant for unnecessary vocabulary ("mojo", for example). What is present are caterpillars and butterflies. Lots of them. In photos and in text, the book is sure to captivate the interest of children everywhere.Oh, and two tips for parents whose children request they read this book over and over to the point where you groan when they want you to read the book. First, liven up the book by substituting the word "monster" for "butterfly". This sent my son into gales of laughter one evening. Second, amuse yourself by adding the word "midlife" before the word "chrysalis". The play on words will be entirely lost on your child, and it'll bring a smile to your own face. Then buy another National Geographic Books and hide the one you've read twenty times in the last month.

I have liked all of the National Geographic readers. We got this one when I did a live butterfly habitat with my 6 yr old as a homeschool science project and it made a very nice lesson. Beautiful pictures, good vocabulary, great explanations of the life cycle and shows a lot of different types of butterflies with their names (important because we always want to know!) These books also make good beginning readers for when your child moves into that stage of reading. Great purchase!

This is a very informative book for kids about the life cycle of butterflies. It is just a basic knowledge of butterflies in general, no info on different colors/names of the different butterflies, my 4 1/2 year old grandson was wanting to know about when we saw the 1st butterflies of the season in the back yard while he was playing in his sand box. It turned out that the ones we saw were actually a yellow swallowtail/male and black swallowtail/female and a small black butterfly/baby. I finally found that info on the internet.

My daughters have been fascinated by butterflies since infancy. This was a great purchase, as it seemed a bit more "grown up" but was still very accessible to them. It had more information than you'd expect from a 'baby' book, and bridged the gap nicely between starter and early reader.

#7,730 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Well the plot sounded great with the human h an astronaut, and a doctor and she's only 28! The alien H had claiming marks, prehensile hair, and some family angst. Wow, perfect I thought. Sadly, it all went downhill from there. The h lost her mind in her lust for the H. She became a brainless object, moved here, put there - sit, stay and wait to be rescued. The alien backstory was treated the same way, a matriarchal society written as teenage 'mean girls'. The erotica made this unsuitable for a teen audience and the teenage plot devices made it unsuitable for an adult audience. Lost opportunity from a clearly talented writer - the story flowed so well, such a shame that it was wasted.

I found this tale to be a fascinating and unique start of a sci-fi series. Tate is a new author to me, and of course, the first thing that caught my eye was the stunning cover. While I admit to stumbling over the occasional typo, I was able to easily put that behind me with the engaging narrative. Descriptions offered wonderful world-building, and the pace was excellent. I am eagerly awaiting the next tale in this fun, new and scorching hot series!

Familiar trope of alien finding fated mate in an Earthling. These aliens are aware of Earth, which is considered a backward or infant planet. Earthlings of course are not yet aware of aliens. This adds on the trope of something having happened in the past on their planet so that fated mates are a legend, and men out number women, making the women more powerful. There is a mating challenge, and angry people, etc.I look forward to more in the series.

Hannah is abducted by aliens from the Mars Hope Skylab that she lives in. Her and the aliens are unable to communicate at first. She doesn't know what they will do to her. Bren has been dreaming of Hannah for a year, before he finds and takes her. Hannah is Bren's mate, but Bren is promised to another on his planet. The other woman is angry to loose one of her many husbands. The women rule on Bren's planet and their will be consequences. Must read.

This book was a steamy and easy read for those who simply want to get away from reality for a while. It is for adults and I found it a refreshing read. It is a mix of genres and I laughed, got mad and it touched me too. Surely a unique book for the open-minded. I received this book during a FREE Amazon giveaway.

Wow. This is the first book in the series. It can be read as a standalone or part of the series. There is drama, some hints of domestic violence (not from the main characters) a controlling female wanting to get her way (from Bren's home planet) and a few other things as well if you want to know more please read.

I picked up BREN'S BLESSING for free and to see if I liked Pearl Tate' s writing. I love the story, the compelling characters, and descriptive prose! A strong recommendation to others. BREN'S BLESSING made me a Pearl Tate fan!

Really a great story. Some heat, the happy ending leads to another story. Pearl writes a good story, I have not read any of her stuff before. I will read more. Get this story you won't be disappointed

#159,534 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Dragon Ride shattered all my pre-conceived ideas of life in China. Far from easy and progressive, it is hard, frightening and, for an American missionary, lonely. After one particularly grim ordeal, the author became aware that this was her initiation into being accepted as Chinese, where one “always faced a brick wall, and was never given a solution for making life work”. A sense of humor was helpful, if not required. Food was unusual (stir-fried silkworms anyone?)This is an amazing book. A 21st century missionary is making missions real for today. Read it aloud with your family – from your mid-elementary aged children to the oldest senior in your home, everyone will be drawn into the struggles, intrigue and suspense written here. You will share in the fears, disappointments, rejection and humiliation of Chinese Christians who are arrested and often jailed for their faith. Ministry was slow, cautious; demons were real; threats were daily; prayer was imperative. The author’s own background as an atheist, and her own search for truth, became a starting point for conversations with university students during those years in China and Hong Kong. Grace Jacob doesn’t pretend to know all the answers. She shared her doubts, imperfections, anger, questions, and the heartache of having to leave China for the safety of her family, and the safety of the Chinese believers. In all the years spent living there, this truth stood out: God was faithful. He could be trusted. He always answered prayer.

I got this book figuring it would be an adventure story of how discreet missionaries are doing God's work in China. However, once I got into it a few sections, I realized it was that and more. The book's insights are proving immediately applicable to my life, with valuable ideas about living and sharing faith in any diverse culture, including here in the US where I live.It was fascinating to read her ways of sharing the Good News with secular atheists, Buddhists, Muslims and others, by learning "to think like they think in order to make the gospel appealing." As Grace wrote: "I couldn’t start from my way of thinking and expect them to make the transition—almost definitely they wouldn’t. I had to make the switch and think like they did."The book is filled with engaging personal testimony, accounts of God's miraculous works, and lessons learned in many different ministry settings. Grace writes in a sincere, naturally interesting way that drew me into the book and kept me eager to read what would come next. I particularly appreciated the splendid imagery, to let me visualize the country & people.I thought the author's use of her 48 vignettes was masterful. If ever I were to take on writing to share some of my own life stories & lessons-learned with my kids & grandkids, this is the way I'd try to do it!Oh yes: you'll have to read the book to learn why "Lazy waitresses are ideal for secret Christian training. "

Dragon Ride is an excellent contribution to the understanding of contemporary Chinese culture and politics, as well as a segment of Evangelical Christianity in the USA. It is largely a series of autobiographical episodes in the life of the author and her family in the context of intense interaction for nearly thirty years with Chinese people of Hong Kong and mainland China. The author and her husband hail from two separate locations on the American East Coast but share a common call to introduce their Christian faith to Chinese people. They have learned to speak fluently two largely different Chinese dialects, and have engaged the diverse peoples in Hong Kong, in large urban mainland Chinese centers and in the relative rural Chinese backwaters, including people from some non-Han minority groups. They have grown to love and appreciate the various peoples and their cultures and to develop ways of communication which are respectful of those peoples’ sensitivities. The author comes across as an intense, sincere, energetic, devout, and refreshingly transparent Christian woman. The book’s episodes highlight her attempts, successful and unsuccessful, to evangelize her non-Christian Chinese acquaintances, consistent with Jesus Christ's Great Commission found in the Bible in Matthew 28:18-20. The direct writing style is clearly the voice of the author. The book is easy to read and is conveniently divided into relatively short episodic chapters. It heavily uses the jargon of evangelical protestant Christians and therefore it will be quite familiar and comfortable to them. It may be misunderstood and even be off-putting to those not from those communities. Nevertheless this book will be of value to both Christians and non-Christians. Christians will find the stories inspirational and encouraging. To Christians and non-Christians alike it will provide valuable insights into modern Chinese culture, which has immense worldwide importance. At this time of national polarization and misunderstanding, for non-Christians or casual Christians it will give insights into some of the values and mindsets of a large number of their neighbors and fellow citizens, and this perhaps may be useful for personal bridge building.
