The History of Roller Skating is a wonderful book about a topic that has been sorely neglected. Even most competitive roller skaters have very little knowledge of the history of their sport; Turner's book goes a long way toward filling in those gaps, with emphasis on the USA skating scene.With lots of detail and many wonderful photos, this History is entertaining for those both in and out of the US competitive skating community. It's also of interest to ice skaters and ice skating fans who are curious about the shared history of ice and roller skating.Color photos would be a nice edition to a future edition of this book (the current edition features black and white photos), especially in the chapter that talks about changes in skating costuming over the years. If there was anything else I would change, it would be to add more about the skaters who have made history throughout the years. Who were the great skaters, the equals of ice skating's Dorothy Hamill or Brian Boitano? Since roller skating doesn't get TV coverage, those skaters are unknown, and they shouldn't be. The book mentions some of the skaters and their feats, but more photos and statistics would be tremendous -- there really is no other source for them.Even without those improvements, this is an excellent book that I can recommend with no reservations.

This isn't really true traditional lore. The author puts his own spin on Native mythos. He does it to the point that it's New Age rather than an accurate summary of ancient stories. If you are OK with this, go ahead and enjoy the book. For me however, enough is added to or omitted from, to make me angry. I bought a used paperback, and I plan to cut up the pages and put individual words into my art collages. I certainly don't plan to keep this book for posterity.

I may have come to this book late after its publishing, but the timing is Devine and perfect. I recommend this to anyone who feels dispair about our current status on this planet. Rise above anguish and grasp the hope of the time we are in. Consciousness is key. It is the basis of the teachings I do with my clients. We must not turn away in sadness but embrace our awareness to make Change. Be the change you wish to see, live by example. We all have the power to shift the direction of our planet, one soul at a time.

This is the kind of book you read in front of a roaring fire when you're snowed in for days. It makes you feel warm inside and it takes you away into the spirit world that calls your name and tells you all this ain't all that.This is an older title but it's message is timeless. If you're looking to buy a book that can change your mind about the stress of the everyday, this is it.We're all spirits having a human experience. We are not Nations, we are not religious differences. We are not racial bias, sexual discrimination or hate. We are teachers. Actually I could never say enough about this book, it's too infinite for definition..full of joyous peace,THAT it is.

Fantastic writing ! Visits several different ways that Life Force Energy (God) has visited and interacted with Indigenous people's in the history of Turtle Island (United States). Powerful and moving, as all of Ken's books are. Have read it several tines years apart and it always stirs me deeply.

I really loved this book. Having always believed in the old ways, I found validation in this book. If you are open to Native American ways of respecting Earth, Humans,Spirituality and all of nature, you will enjoy this book. It is based on traditional Native American beliefs that all is sacred and honor and respect are the natural ways of living. It has some non traditional ways of explaining some things that are spiritual. God works in ways that are mysterious to us. I recommend reading it if you are open minded about creation or just curious about possibilities and want love and balance in life.

This book is great for those who are into Native American spirituality and its profound relationship to the planet. Native American ceremony for many is a most relevant and satisfying path for growth and development however for me I find it a little too “warm and fuzzy”. That being said, it is clear that this book was furthered via the influence of a higher energetic or vibrational level. The reason I’m writing this review is to point out that Chapter 5, White Buffalo Calf Woman provides an exquisite description of that formative and creative energy known as the Seventh Ray of Ceremonial Order or Magic as detailed by the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul and Alice A. Bailey.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for one whom studies Native American Culture.
