"The First Grace" is, according the Fathers of the Church, the natural law implanted in the hearts of all men and women, made in the image of God. Russel Hittinger traces the history of this doctrine through the Ancients, the Middle Ages, and its apogee in the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas. What is "new" in Hittinger's account is the Thomistic emphasis on Providence in the Natural Law, defined as the participation of the creature in the Eternal Law of God. Hittinger is convinced that this essential aspect of the natural law was lost in the Enlightenment with its deistic notion of God.After this grand survey in Section One, the author applies his refined analysis of natural law to the American Constitutional order. He maintains that the Founding Fathers had a certain grasp of the natural law, but that they made the decision not to treat fundamental law in the Constitution itself. Rather, they purposely intended to leave the bulk of natural law type decisions to the several states since they were proposing a precisely limited federal government. Hittinger then shows how this original consitutional order has been progressively undermined by the Federal government and especially by the Courts as they began to develop a distorted version of the natural law, based on the so called right to privacy. To watch the historical unfolding of this so called "right to privacy" through Roe v. Wade, Griswold v. Connecticut, and unto it's final crystalization in the "mystery of life" definition found in Planned Parenthood v. Casey is horrifying. Indeed, Hittinger has even proclaimed that such a decision has already created a "A Crisis of Legitimacy" in the American Constitutional order on a par with the Dred Scott decision. (recall the famous debate in First Things, Nov. 1996)In conclusion, Hittinger's presentation of the natural law is profound, but his book also explains the legal basis for the deterioration of the public place of religion in American civic life as well as the dangerous consequences of technology in our Brave New World. What is need then, I think,is a peaceful second American revolution (similar to the one which freed Eastern Europe in the 90's) to restore the law of God to its proper place in the American Constitutional order. Without such a return to our humble beginnings as a nation under God, it seems clear that human pride and unbridled governmental power, untethered from the traditional restraints of the natural law and our original Constitutional order, will bring an end to our American experiment in ordered liberty and prudent Republican self government. The choice is now ours before our God, the Lord of history and the Judge of Nations, but Prof. Russel Hittinger has given us light that we may so choose to be reconstituted as one nation under God, indivisble, with liberty and justice for all (the born, the unborn, and the terminally ill).

Beans are common and used more creatively than in many cuisines. Wine and vinegar use is very small. Pork and cured pork products make no appearance at all. Breads and pasta are limited in variety, although those which do appear are distinctive. New world vegetables appear, but mostly as fresh rather than cooked ingredients. Fin fish and squid appear, but bivalves are uncommon.Levy and Roden concentrate on different geographical boundaries, with Roden including and Levy excluding North Africa west of Egypt, although Levy still includes reference to famous Morrocan features such as couscous and tangines. If I were picking one book, I would take Roden based on the deeper historical perspective, the more interesting geographical range, and the (I suspect) more valid separation of Turkish cuisine from that of the Levant. If you were primarily interested as a source for entertaining and most especially interested in the Arab cuisine, then Levy's book may give you more of what you want. Both are superior books on a regional cuisine. I give it only four stars because it did not teach me anything really new about cooking and cuisine. I love this book! The author, Faye Levy, offers the readers an excellent overview of the Middle Eastern cuisine, along with interesting recipes for the dishes that hail from different countries in the region.

My food-obsessed son gave me this cookbook one Christmas. It was a gift to the whole family. Now, in addition to our standard Thanksgiving dinner, we have a collection of favorites from Feast from the Mideast that we prepare together when we want a meal that lives up to the word "feast". We are most impressed with the Chicken Bulgar Pecan patties. My daughter is a big fan of the desserts. I find them unnecessary, as I am quite satisfied by this cuisine which relies heavily on olive oil, lemon juice and lots of vegetables.

I cut my teeth on Clarence Larkin's Dispensational Truth and his other books 36 years ago. The Spirit World set the bar concerning the doctrines of Satan, angels, Nephilim, and other supernatural entities. Although he wrote in the era of 1918-1924, he was ahead of his time. Most of the Bible prophecy charts today are patterned after his original work.

I found this book so wonderful for several reasons. It reads easily. Doesn't seem dated at all (He wrote this in early 20th century). It rocks that he did all of his own drawings / diagrams. It has been researched to great extent without coming out boring at all. Not a thick book...I finished in a day and evening. The first time I read through it, I did so without my Bible. After that, I used it with my Bible (with Study Guide). The book enhanced the Bible and didn't change the Bible's contents but it made it even more interesting and easier to understand. Love this book and just received 2 of Clarence Larkin's other books. I will start them up after the Holidays are over. What a joy to read and so much research he must have done on the topics. Chapters are easy to follow and well divided. What a blessing I consider it to be for anyone who is hungry to read and understand as much as possible about the Bible. You won't be disappointed.

I really liked this book. Larkin cites a verse (usually several) for everything that he states. You may not agree with everything, but it would be extremely beneficial to you whatever your theological views are. He writes gently, but with conviction, leaning on the "scripture of truth" rather than his "own understanding."

All of Clarence Larkins books are excellent material for Bible students and teachers, I just read the Kindle edition of this book and will be ordering all of his hardcover books and The Book of Charts from larkinestate.com

This is a clear explaination of the invisable world using examples from the Bible. If you are really interested in this subject also read Timaeus and Critus by Plato and "Earth's Earliest Ages" by Rev. G. H.Pember. I cannot find it again but "On the Origins of H-ll" by William Law also has to do with the interface between the Spirit World and the material World. Also see "Demonology I & II" by Rev. This book has some nifty ideas and recipes, so it's a shame how many typos and mistakes it's riddled with. In fact, the missing and scrambled letters make a lot of gibberish at times, which has made me highly reluctant to trust the recipes. For instance, at location 1371, we have "10 (10 inch) tortilla chips" (I THINK it should be just "tortillas," because the recipe is to make chips). At location 1578, we have (toppings): "chopped dried fruit toasted nuts almond bridle chips flaked coconut, mini peanut butter pieces red and green sprinkles" [1 comma for the whole load, and I'm not sure what "bridle" is, except for the horse headgear].

I am always looking for ideas I can use for gifts. Living in the desert in NM it is not always easy to obtain unusual ingredients. I found these recipes used things available in local grocery stores. A good selection of ideas. One I had to find was a surprise basket for a new mother. A few little things to pamper her, like a good relaxing tea that is out of the ordinary. Or something like a bath salts that was relaxing.

I use these recipes for camping - I don't use a jar, I use cook bags (plastic bags made to withstand heat without releasing toxic chemicals into your food.) In most, I just add water, some I need to bake over the fire, some I just need to shake and let it sit.

I am a very crafty person. I always enjoy reading new books and getting new ideas on fun things to make.

Can't recommend you purchase this book. The printing is significantly less than optimal--to say the least. Any graphic with any detail is very poorly reproduced in this book. The simple graphics are ok but when you get to anything with any detail the printing is so poor you can't see what the pattern really is.

Good book.

it was a present for someone who likes chinese culture but she want to do more. So this book show her the culture and she makes little things now.

I like the pictures. I kind of wish there were more animal pictures and the pictures were bigger but I can always blow them up on my computer.

It was just what I expected. It is a thin booklet (8 1/2 x 11) with a lot of chinese patterns in it. I wanted to scrapbook my pictures from our trips to China. The booklet is entirely done in black and white. I suppose it depends on what you want to use it for, but I am very happy with it.

Its good writing, but the plot thickens and thins back and forth within the series depending on what book you reading. Good afternoon everyone today I am reviewing book four in the billionaire romance series what a girl loves.So far in the series we have Sara and Robert two collage kids falling in love. I hope you read book one and book two and book three. it is definitely must to understand what is going on here in book four. This series is written in two points of views one being Sara and the other being Robert. It switches every other chapter. In book one Sara is at school to prove to her father that she can. She meets Robert in class. Robert is typical rich kid partying all night and doesn't care about school. In book one they are paired together for school project. Sara is not happy to be paired with guy who missed 6 weeks of classes. In book one while working together they get feelings for each other which is admitted at the end. Robert gets call that his dad is very ill then book ends. Now in book 2 we introduce James Robert's friend who has small crush on Sara. In book 2 starts with Sara not seeing Rob for few weeks but she's been spending a lot of time with James. She has no idea that James likes her. Rob invites Sara to go meet his dad who is dying. Robs dad makes him do this. Sara invites James to come along as she is nervous. When Sara meets Rob's dad he tells her firmly that he does not want Sara with his son. Sara is upsets and leaves back to school with James. Back at her dorm James tells Sara that he likes her and ask her out. Rob shows up and apologize to Sara but Sara is confused said she needs time. Book three what a girl knows starts off with Sara trying to decide who to choose. In this part of thier journey sara is unsure of what to do. She finally decides to call james after a week of ignoring both james and rob. This call ends with a date that she is unsure of. Mean while rob goes over to james dorm to talk with him and over hears the phone call. On sara and James date Robert shows up and it goes bad. Sara and Robert realize again they want each other. They end up together again and Robert takes sara to his private island. They just arrived and Robert gets a phone call from his sister. His dad has died but not before telling the girls how he felt for sara. So rob asks sara to join him in going to funeral.Now book four what a girl loves sara is heading with Robert to the funeral where she will meet Roberts 3 sisters. Theres more drama in what a girl loves then romance. Sara meets his sisters for first time day before funeral. So you know that has some issues. This is a good series but they should of made it into one book instead of several short stories.Note: I have received this product for a free or reduced price in exchange for my honest in biased review.

This is the fourth out of six books in this series. This is another short book (why they did not put them all in one is beyond me) and does not take long to read. The writing is getting better with each installment of this series. Again, the writing will draw you in and keep you hooked. There are a few spots that drag, but not enough for me to put it down. This book shows what a strong woman the main character is able to be, where in the past books it was not so obvious. I cannot wait to read the next book.Recommend this to a friend? Took me a little long than I anticipated to write this review but as a single mom of two it took me longer to read this book than I anticipated. Lol! I will say that I am absolutely addicted to this series! I don't want to ruin any of the plot to this book so I will keep my review pretty generic because as an avid reader myself I HATE spoilers, but I will say that this is a very well written series with perfect plot progression, it's a easy read that flows well and the characters are very well established. It's for sure my favorite romantic novel series. Very "50 shades" like which for me is amazing! The writing is done so well that your mind "sees" the story as you read it! I recieved the entire series free on my kindle in exchange for my honest review, which for kindle download it's free anyhow, but just for the sake of complete honesty I wanted to disclose that.
